Skowhegan Savings Collecting School Supplies for Local Students
SKOWHEGAN, Maine - Skowhegan Savings is now collecting new school supplies in its annual drive to support local students' scholastic needs. Donors can contribute new supplies at the following branch offices until September 3: Elm Street, Skowhegan (Main Branch); Waterville Road, Skowhegan; Main Street, Norridgewock; Main Street, Bingham and Church Street, Dexter.
Supplies that are needed include: 3-ring binders, lined paper, highlighters, pens, pencils, book covers, glue sticks, lunch boxes and backpacks. There are labeled drop-boxes at each collection site, and donors do not need to be Skowhegan Savings' customers to contribute.
"Many families struggle to purchase the basic supplies that students need each year for back to school," noted Karen Hart, assistant vice president and marketing officer for the Bank. "We're happy to help students start the academic year off on the right foot by collecting and donating the materials to area schools."
Community schools in the Bank's service area are chosen at random and donations are given to each school's principal to distribute to students in need in various grades.
Hart added, "With the current economic situation, the need is greater than ever and every donation will make a difference. From a small package of pencils or pens to a new backpack, these supplies will help students complete their assignments and start the school year off on equal footing with their classmates."
